A historic chapter officially opened for the Peralta Elementary School community. On Monday, August 3, 2026, district leadership, faculty, students, families, and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Open House to celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new, state-of-the-art facility just in time for the 2026–2027 school year.

The celebration offered families their first look inside Peralta Elementary’s modern learning spaces, giving students the chance to tour the campus, meet their teachers, and celebrate the long-awaited landmark for the town and Los Lunas Schools.

“It is a celebration of our students, families, and a community that believes deeply in the power of education,” Los Lunas Schools Superintendent Susan D. Chavez told families during the event.

Crews officially broke ground on the massive project in 2024, paving the way for progress and innovation. The aging infrastructure, which had served the community faithfully for decades, now makes room for a purpose-built facility engineered to embrace modern educational practices and foster an optimal learning environment.

To keep students learning safely on site throughout the multi-year transformation, the old campus was torn down intermittently while school was in session. The phased project required immense patience and coordination from students, staff, and construction crews alike as the old buildings gradually gave way to the new campus.

A.T., a fifth grader at Peralta Elementary, welcomed families as she cut the ribbon for the big event. She talked about the impact her teachers have had on her education.

“When I arrived at Peralta Elementary, I did not know English,” she said. “Even though this was not a bilingual school, my teachers were a huge help in teaching me the language. They have always supported me just as they have been kind and supportive to other children.”

The ceremony also celebrated Peralta Elementary’s new principal, J.J. Sandoval, and the school's first-ever assistant principal, Andrea Klaurens.

Dear Los Lunas Schools Families,

We are excited to share some wonderful news as we prepare for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year! To help support our families and ensure every student is ready to learn, Los Lunas Schools will be providing all standard classroom school supplies for all students this year.

Please note that families will only need to provide a few personal everyday items separately:

• Backpack
• Reusable lunch bag
• Refillable water bottle
• Earbuds or headsets

We are excited to make this upcoming school year a fantastic and successful one for all of our students!

If you know families who are new to our district, please encourage them to register their student(s) before May 22nd, as it ensures a smooth transition into our new Synergy Student Information System (SIS).

A Note for New Families:
All new students must register at their designated home school first. If you are interested in a transfer, the Transfer Window will be open from June 1 – August 1.

PE is thrilled to introduce our very first School Store Fundraiser - a simple and impactful way to support our students and staff. Your child has been given a Book Buddy Lanyard containing important details and a unique participation code. Please ensure each student returns their own lanyard with their individual code, as codes cannot be shared between siblings.

The School Store Fundraiser is entirely online, so there is no need for in-person selling, handling cash or delivering products. Participating takes less than 12 minutes and gives students the chance to earn fun prizes. Here's how you can help:

• Use your child's form to send emails to invite family, friends, or co-workers to support your student and PE.
• Return the completed Book Buddy Lanyard with your child's Student Prize Code so they can receive their participation prize.

Don't forget to ask your child for their Book Buddy Lanyard and help make a difference for our school community. Your involvement directly benefits our students and teachers by providing essential resources. Thank you for your continued support!
