The groundbreaking ceremony was held March 1, 2024. School administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community leaders attended the event, as well as representatives from Dekker Perich Sabatini Architecture and the Contractor, Bradbury Stamm Construction.

The demolition of the old Peralta Elementary School holds great significance, as it paves the way for progress and innovation. The aging infrastructure, which had served the community faithfully for decades, will now make room for a purpose-built facility that will embrace modern educational practices and foster an optimal learning environment.

Amy Viramontes, Principal of Peralta Elementary School, is excited for the future.

"I'm filled with anticipation as construction begins on Peralta Elementary's new school,” expresses Ms. Viramontes. “While saying goodbye to our current building stirs up cherished memories for both students and staff, we're eagerly looking ahead to the opportunities that await in our modern, state-of-the-art facility."

The new Peralta Elementary School aims to revolutionize education by incorporating technology, flexible learning spaces, and sustainable design principles. Its design has been carefully crafted to promote collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, catering to the diverse needs and interests of our students.

Key features of the new Peralta Elementary include:

1. Advanced Technology Integration: The facility will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, including Interactive Flat Panels by ViewSonic, multimedia learning tools, and high-speed internet connectivity, enabling students to engage in immersive and interactive learning experiences.

2. Flexible Learning Spaces: The school will offer versatile classrooms and collaborative spaces that can be easily adapted to accommodate various teaching methodologies, group projects, and individual study sessions. These flexible spaces will encourage creativity, innovation, and teamwork among students.

3. Innovations Lab: The school will boast a dedicated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) lab. The specialized facility will foster hands-on learning experiences, encourage experimentation, and inspire students to explore their interests in these critical fields.

4. Environmental Sustainability: The building design achieves a 58% energy reduction when compared to the AIA 2030 Commitment climate goals strategy. The site design minimizes stormwater runoff and maintains existing retention ponds. Plumbing fixtures and equipment are water conserving, recognizing the importance of water resources to the community. Low water use landscaping also reduces water usage, as does the synthetic turf play field. Power savings will be provided using LED lamp technology luminaires, both interior and exterior, which will provide approximately 30% energy savings from the old fluorescent lamps or HID technologies. Electrical savings will also be achieved with energy efficient mechanical and plumbing equipment. Light colored roofing is specified to reflect heat energy.

The new Peralta Elementary School floor plan was inspired by the charming town and rich history of Peralta, as well as the stunning hues that grace its landscapes and expansive skies year-round. Dekker Perich Sabatini Architecture says their design concept embraces a warm and welcoming interior that incorporates color and texture to foster a deep connection to nature. From vibrant graphics to carefully selected colors and textures, every element of the design celebrates Peralta's distinct seasonal palettes and unique character. Their goal is to photo-document the old campus and reuse the unique art images in the new building to capture the history and spirit of the community.

The new Peralta Elementary School is slated for completion in 2026. As construction progresses, the Peralta community eagerly awaits the day when its students will step foot into this innovative educational facility, where they will be empowered to learn and grow.
